Thursday Thirteen
September 27th, 2007

Happy TT! Today’s Thursday Thirteen was sent to me in an e-mail and it totally cracked me up.

Thirteen Views on Angels by Children

1. “It’s not easy to become an angel! First, you die. Then you go to heaven, then there’s still the flight training to go through. And then you got to agree to wear those angel clothes.” –Matthew, 9

2. “I only know the names of two angels: Hark and Harold.” –Gregory, 5

3. “Everybody’s got it all wrong. Angels don’t wear halos anymore. I forget why, but scientists know all about it now.” –Olive, 9

4. “Angels work for God and watch over kids when God has to go do something else.” –Mitchell, 7

5. “My guardian angel helps me with math, but he’s not much good for science.” –Henry, 8

6. “Angels don’t eat, but they drink milk from holy cows.” –Scooter , 6

7. “Angels talk all the way while they’re flying you up to heaven. The basic message is where you went wrong before you got dead.” –Daniel, 7

8. “When an angel gets mad, he takes a deep breath and counts to ten, and when he lets out his breath, somewhere there’s a tornado.” –Regan, 5

9. “Angels have a lot to do and they keep very busy. If you lose a tooth, an angel comes in through your window and leaves money under your pillow. Then when it gets cold, angels go north for the winter.” –Sara, 6

10. “Angels live in cloud houses made by God and his son, who’s a very good carpenter.” –Jared , 8

11. “All angels are girls because they gotta wear dresses and boys didn’t go for it.” –Antonia, 9

12. “Some of the angels are in charge of helping heal sick animals and pets. And if they don’t make the animals get better, they help the kid get over it.” –Vicki, 8

13. “What I don’t get about angels is why, when someone is in love, they shoot arrows at them.” –Sarah, 7

A Haven for Writers
September 26th, 2007

I don’t know how many of you know this, but Stephen King is my all-time favorite writer. I’ve learned a lot about writing from him and his books. At least two entire shelves (and more actually) in my bookcase are full of SK’s books.

Anyhoo, he created this foundation called “The Haven Foundation” in 2006 - from the latest press release:

“The Haven Foundation was founded by King to provide financial assistance to writers and artists who, because of an injury or illness, are not able to provide for themselves or their loved ones. The charity offers a wide range of support for artists who make their living on a freelance basis and might not be able to work for a period of time.”

They now have enough money to offer grants to mid-list writers who need financial assistance. He came up with the idea after that awful accident back in 1999 when he was hit by a van and left by the side of the road. Obviously he has deep pockets, but he’s an exception to that rule for writers.

I think this is utterly fantastic and I encourage any writer to make a donation to The Haven Foundation. Here’s their website. Take a minute to read about it and spread the word. They have events, auctions and donation information - there’s even a store where proceeds benefit the foundation.

It’s here, it’s here, it’s here!!!
