So no time to be online or blog. I went up with my sister, niece and niece’s other half to tour my alma mater, NYU. Ya know I haven’t been back “on campus” (a relative term because there is no real campus, but it is centered around Washington Square) for 18 years.
*gasp*
That made me step back. Has it really been 18 years since I finished college? Yep, it has. I left in December 1988 (finished a semester early) and drove away with BF (now DH). I remember the feeling of “hooyah!!!!” as we drove down 15th street.
Now suddenly it’s 18 years later.
After the cab ride from the airport yesterday, we got out at the library at NYU (I worked there for 3 years) and rounded the corner to the front of it. The feelings of deja vu washed over me and I grabbed my sister’s arm. It was the strangest feeling, as if something long forgotten had just yawned and stretched, then blinked at the bright light. Everything was familiar, but yet many things had changed.
After an information session with the admissions lady (man how things have changed), we took the campus tour (which was interesting), then onto the “behind the scenes” tour of my niece’s department of choice. Then we walked.
And walked and walked and walked.
I had completely forgotten how much walking I actually did while living in Manhattan. I swear we must have walked 10 miles, including the length and breadth of Central Park. After that our return flight was delayed and I didn’t get home until 1:30 am. I am still fuzzy today from all the exercise, the travel, and the emotional hits from going back to where I’d been.
‘Twas a fascinating step back to who I was.
