Favorite childhood book
March 31st, 2007

Lately I’ve been thinking about my favorite book as a child and why. My favorite book (no laughing) was The Poky Little Puppy.

It was a golden book for kids with little spotted puppies. I can still tell you the entire story - lol! - I read it like a million times. I think I identified with that poky little puppy - you see he was the one that was always the last coming home, the loner, the one that stayed behind to explore. Then when he got home he ate all the dessert his brothers and sisters didn’t get because they’d dug under the fence.

Of course in the end, the poky little puppy got caught. Then their mother put up a sign that said no desserts ever for puppies that dig holes under fences. (As if the puppies could read. *snort*)

Anyway, for some reason that book was my absolute favorite.

How about y’all?

  1. I don’t know that The Poky Little Puppy was my favourite book but I remember it :)

    I loved Dr Suess books.

  2. I used to love

Never Talk to Strangers: a Book About Personal Safety

I know. I know. WTF? LOL

It was really catchy and talked about stranger danger in a way that held my attention. I think I made my mother read this to me so many times the pages fell out.

  3. Erin ~ Dr. Seuss - yep, I liked those too. Loved Horton Hears a Who.
Mandy ~ *snort* Now that’s a book I wouldn’t have expected. But hey, now you’re an adult and you can kick anyone’s ass if they bother you. That book prepared you!

  4. The Poky Little Puppy wasn’t my favorite childhood book, but it was the book my grandparents kept underneath the table in the den area of their house. I love reading it to my toddler!!!

  5. Jana ~ Yay! I was at the doctor with my 10 YO this week and they had stickers… one of them was for The Poky Little Puppy!! I couldn’t believe it. So, um, I, took one for me.
