Shopping in the Worldwide Market, part 1

I got these from a peep at work - I’m going to post them in three parts. They’re too hilarious not to savor… I present, Part 1.

WHY IT’S DIFFICULT TO SHOP IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES:

1. Would you want to go here?

2. Sounds yummy, eh? “Traditional” it says!

3. This must be baby food.

Happy birthday Abe
February 12th, 2007

Today is Abraham Lincoln’s birthday - did you know that? I think of all the presidents he stands out the most for just about everybody. Not just because of the stovepipe hat or his height. In a time when the US was in such a tumultuous state, he didn’t sit around with his thumb up his butt waiting for something to happen. He either made it happen or handled it when it did.

I imagine that being president during the Civil War was much harder than it is today. For one thing, Abe was really smart, I mean really smart (not like some other presidents over the last 25 years that shall remain nameless - you know who they are). Have you ever read The Gettysburg Address? The man was not only a writer but an orator. He used his intelligence to do what he did best - manage the country in the bloodiest, heart-wrenching period in our history.

Another thing about Abe is the fact that he stayed with his wife. Did you know Mary was probably insane? She was considered by everyone, aside from Abe, to be difficult, touchy and described as a hell-cat. Deep and abiding love there between them - I imagine Abe was a very patient man to have kept his love for his wife over and above everything else.

Apparently the last surviving heir to Lincoln, his great-grandson through his son Robert, died in 1985. Nowadays, politics is all about money and power and charisma, not about intelligence. Take a moment to remember Abe today and thank him for emancipating the slaves and abolishing slavery, for keeping the country together when it was nearly ripped asunder, and for creating a role model for a president that few have achieved.

Happy birthday Abe.

(And happy birthday Arianna Hart!)

Vicarious
February 10th, 2007

So here’s the scoop. I have a novella in an anthology coming from Triskelion Publishing (should be this month). This came about with my muse sisters (Christy Gissendaner, Sydney Somers, Karen Mandeville, Sarah Dickson, Maggie Nash, Kara Griffin, and Annalee Blysse) and an idea of writing a story based on our assigned muse.

I am muse Clio, goddess of history and writing.

Anyhoo, there are three anthologies coming - Vicarious, Exquisite, and and Intense. Mine is in the first one Vicarious along with my Aussie sisters, Sarah Dickson and Karen Mandeville. My novella is called Clio (a western of course!) and here is yon blurb:

Clio is not only the muse of history, she has virtually lived her life through books. When her father’s jealous wife sends the muses through space and time, Clio finds herself in the Old West with no way of getting home and none of her powers. Relying on her book learning is not working out like she’d hoped.

Ace Nevada is an unwilling sheriff who has spent the last year trying to get out of town. When a crazy woman lands in the horse trough in front of a saloon, he finds himself strangely attracted to her. He can’t help himself from sampling her lips or her incredibly lush body.

Clio learns how to be human and Ace remembers what it is to be human. They are two halves of the same whole. Mates. When Clio’s powers return, will their love pass the test of time?
