The Top Ten Things I Learned Driving in South Carolina
August 20th, 2005

1. The speed limit on I-95 is just a suggestion.
2. South of the Border has more billboards with donkey’s asses than I’ve ever seen in my life.
3. If you forget your adult toys at home, there are dozens of stores along the way where you can restock.
4. Restaurants along I-95 try to entice you by proclaiming they are “no gimmick restaurants.” Yum. I’m there.
5. When the sun is shining, and it starts pouring, southerners say “The devil’s beating his wife again. ”
6. South Carolina got creative with town names. Examples? Alcalu (is that I’ll call you?), Eutawville (heh?), Pinopolis (Metropolis’ little brother?), and Sardis (is that saw this?).
7. They apparently ran out of creative names. I saw such descriptive road names as “Road 16″ and “Road 210″. The mind boggles at the possibilities.
8. South Carolina state troopers are HOT. Yum. I saw many on the side of their road in their uniforms. Wowza!
9. Jesus has rented billboard space along I-95. Look out sinners!
10. (My favorite) There is a country music station in central SC that is now my personal favorite. Call sign? WCOX.

Hope you enjoyed. I’m off to a day of shopping and sightseeing in South Carolina.

  1. Hmmm Think I’ll have to make a road trip to SC and try speeding to the sext toy store. See if any of those hot State Troopers will stop me.

  2. LOL where else did I see a bunch of sex-toy stores. I think it was tennessee or maybe arkansas!

  3. I met a few drivers this weekend who were driving “95″… maybe those you run across are mistaking the highway sign for the speed limit.

  4. lmao! Now here’s the question with the million and one billboards did you stop at South of the Border? I was so enticed by them as a kid that I begged my parents to stop. We spent the night in a hotel there. I still shudder at the roaches….

BTW I always thought the speed limit on 95 was 95… Was I wrong?

  5. I just Googled Alcalu to see if I spelled it right and ended up here. I grew up in Sumter, the largest suburb of Alcalu. Eutawville has famous BBQ, by the way, and if you’re on I 95 you should check out Summerton Diner.
